Who is Karlheinz Stockhausen?

Karlheinz Stockhausen Cosmic Tape Music Club

It's been a few months since we've released a podcast. We've been working on our new album and having a lot of fun live-streaming on Twitch, but now...
we are back with a new monthly topic!

For the rest of September, our private facebook group, the Cosmic Tape Music Club, will be focusing our collective research on the prolific German composer and innovator of early electronic music, Karlheinz Stockhausen!

Please join us in the group to help us in our mission, to learn and share, and be part of the conversation that will become this month's podcast episode!*

*This year we are recording our Cosmic Conversations for a podcast! We will be featuring your personal music and all the research we do together. You can listen wherever you get your podcasts...and may even hear your own music on the episode!

Now...
Who is Karlheinz Stockhausen?

Stockhausen is such a complex figure, who composed over 300 pieces of music from 1951-2007 - one of which he worked on for 30 years. It is difficult to know where to start, what to focus on, and how to tell this story.

But we will give it our best effort!

He may be most well known in our circles for taking over the WDR (West German Radio) Studio for Electronic Music in 1963. This is where he realised his most famous early electronic works and continued to be a pioneer in the field, as it gave him access to advancements around the globe.
Like his partnership with Peter Zinovieff and EMS to develop a Quad sound system.
And that's really just the tip of the iceberg!

Learn a bit about his approach to sound in this incredibly artistic documentary above. You'll really get a sense of his complicated personality and ethos about furthering the advancements of music and sound.

And once you are caught up, feel free to share other articles, videos or album links in the private group.
