Who is Iannis Xenakis?

Iannis Xenakis

After a break to set up our studio for our Twitch streams and album making, we are back with a new monthly topic!

For the month of May, our private facebook group, the Cosmic Tape Music Club, will be focusing our collective research on the godfather of granular synthesis and a renowned architect, Iannis Xenakis!

Please join us in the group to help us in our mission, to learn and share, and be part of the conversation that will become this month's podcast episode!*

*This year we are recording our Cosmic Conversations for a podcast! We will be featuring your personal music and all the research we do together. You can listen wherever you get your podcasts...and may even hear your own music on the episode!

Now...
Who is Iannis Xenakis?

Perhaps best known - in this era - for being dubbed, "the godfather of granular synthesis," Iannis Xenakis is one of the most fascinating people we've ever researched for the club!

He was a resistance fighter in WWII, a mathematics genius, an architect, and not just a composer, an innovator and inventor! Honestly, there is so much to cover.....

Learn a bit about his invention, the UPIC, which encapsulates his vision for the future and how he experiences music, nature and math as one entity in the video above.
And once you are caught up, feel free to share other articles, videos or album links in the private group.

  • In the 70’s my mom bought me his book “Formalized Music”. My thought was WOW finally a good use for calculus. Ten years later, at a computer music conference, I met him but was too intimidated to ask him to autograph the book. That’s my story.
